Strengthening Community Resilience Through VSLA Model

1 min read

Dependable Youth Initiative Uganda has successfully established and supported over 12 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) across communities including Kizigo, Kyantale, Kibbe, Kamulegu, and Kitiiti. These groups have become critical platforms for financial inclusion, enabling members to save regularly, access affordable loans, and build social funds that support members during emergencies.

Through the VSLA approach, beneficiaries such as Ssenkungu Steven, Nandawula Maxy and Mulindwa John and Mike have been able to expand small businesses, invest in agriculture, and meet household needs without relying on exploitative lenders. Women beneficiaries like Annet have gained financial independence and confidence, actively participating in household decision-making.

The introduction of social funds within the VSLAs has strengthened community solidarity, allowing members to support one another during health challenges, funerals, and other unforeseen circumstances. As a result, households are more resilient, financially stable, and socially connected.
